The bright neon lights illuminated the dark, cold surroundings. An occasional flicker of neon tube light was accompanied by a faint pop and hiss, bringing signs of life to the otherwise silent storefront across the street. A light rain fell across the clear night sky, doing little to lift his spirits.

He couldn’t recall the last time his mood was as bleak as the weather. The hot broth in front of him cheered him slightly, bringing back memories of happier times. Food was a form of escape, and took him on numerous pleasant journeys across the world through the portals of his tastebuds.

As he tucked into the warm meal, he realized it was time to keep his chin up and look past the bleak weather and the bleak state of affairs. No point in dwelling on things that couldn’t be controlled, but to focus on things he could change..
